Mike Livingston
The
first record album Mike ever bought was
"Eldorado" by The Electric Light Orchestra. Scribed on the
back of that album was "Written and PRODUCED by
Jeff Lynne". Now, Mike had always known he could write
songs, but what was this "production" thing? A few years
later, Mike bought his first little "Porta-studio"
and he never looked back! Mike began his self instruction in
the art of studio production and engineering. It was trial and
error (mostly error) at first, but it wasn't before long that he was
coming out with some very passable demos to his songs.
As
the years went by, technology improved, computer (MIDI)
arrangements became possible, and Mike found himself with the
ability to not only produce songs on his own - but to replicate the
orchestration and HUGE SOUND he loved so much.
Mike
Livingston is now a sought after producer/engineer. He has a
reputation of doing things blindingly quick. (At one time,
J.Geils called Mike "The fastest mouse in the West"!) He
can listen to a song, tell you how to fix it, and how to RECORD it.
Mike is very well versed in ALL ASPECTS of the recording field.
He is especially trained in
Cakewalk's SONAR.
But whatever the mainframe is, "a studio is a studio".
Mike
is also an excellent MASTERING ENGINEER. He can take older
recordings, clean them up, and bring them up to professional levels.
"It's actually the thing I love doing the most!!"
AVAILABLE
NOW!!! Mike Livingston will be taking on
students to teach them the art of studio recording. "Many
musicians have these little home studio set-ups. They're
continually frustrated that they can't get that BIG STUDIO SOUND.
I can show them how it's done."

The J. Geils Band
Mike first met
Danny by giving him lessons in Cakewalk Sonar back around 2000.
Those lessons were soon parlayed into Mike becoming the engineer on
DK's band's next CD produced by
J.
Geils.
Mike has since become - as
Danny puts it - his "studio guru".
They continue working on projects together at
Danny's private "Sonar
based" studio in Boston, MA.

Bob Johnston
Mike has had the opportunity
of engineering for this legendary record producer on a few
occasions.
"Wow! Was I lucky to fall into THAT ONE!!
I learned more about REAL record production from him than anyone

Mike
Livingston has written well over 100 songs. His tunes tend
to reside very close to his own feelings so Mike has never been able
to crack the "writing for other people" ceiling. But - his
first CD, "Tales Of Love And Worry" sold very well with it's release
in 1998. It is still available for download on iTunes.

Mike is a gifted lyricist who has the ability to
create mood, not only with great words and music,
but with voice inflection you can actually feel.
Vince Charles,
Percussionist with The Neil Diamond Band
I thought the album was great. Mike did a fantastic
job all around; writing, playing, producing.
Mike
continues to write and record. In the year 2000, Mike was
signed by the Australian record label "Endless Journey Records" and
he began work on his next CD. Unfortunately, the label went
"under" (no pun intended) before Mike's music could be heard.
This left a very bad taste in his mouth and he resolved himself to a
life of just playing gigs and quietly recording his own demos.
It
wasn't until a benefit concert in 2008 that Mike felt it was time to
start recording and writing "for real" again. The concert (for
a local church) featured Mike and his band playing mostly his own
creations. Due to the overwhelming response to his music, Mike
is now on the path of continued originality. His newly formed
M.L.R.B. (Mike Livingston Recording Band) featuring Danny Klein
(bass), Vic Paul (keys and music coordinator), and David Freund
(drums) are dusting off Mike's old demos and breathing life into
them. "Maybe a new CD is right around the corner. We'll
see..."
Oh The Demos He's
Recorded...
This is an example of Mike's
recording and arranging abilities. The song was recorded for
an XTC
tribute album released around 2000. Mike arranged and is
playing ALL of the instruments. He's also singing ALL of the vocal
parts.

NEW ~"If
You Know What I Mean"~
NEW!!
Written by Neil Diamond
(Posted March 8, 2010)
Here's Mike's story...
"I have a friend who's a fantastic
entertainer in the New Hampshire
area by the name of Joe McDonald.
One of his favorite songs that I sing has always been
'If You Know What I Mean' by Neil Diamond.
I guess it's his wife's also, because she insisted that he learn it!!
About two weeks back he emailed me a
file with HIS version of the song.
In the email, he mentioned that his wife would LOVE to hear MY take on it.
I had no recording of me
performing it!! So....
It started off as a one shot/one take
vocal and guitar recorded at the same time.
Just for fun, I added bass and drums.
Then (here's where I
got crazy), I took out my trusty
Brian May "Red Special"
guitar and - um - started adding
a few things.
(For those of you who don't
know...
Brian May is the guitar
player from "Queen" who built up
all of the wonderful guitar layers on all of those
wonderful Queen songs!!)
So - if you ever wondered what it
would sound like if Neil Diamond
took Freddie Mercury's place in Queen....
...here it is!! (Why WOULD you
though?!?)
It was NOT my intention to take this
as far over the top as I did.
I hope Neil and Brian find it in their hearts to forgive me!!!
LOL!! ;P
All cover songs are presented for demonstration purposes ONLY!!
